Nel Centro Fall 2018 Newsletter
The fall arts season is here!
The 2018 fall arts season is a special and magical time for Nel Centro and downtown Portland. As a proud supporter of Oregon Ballet Theatre, the Portland Opera, Chamber Music Northwest, the Oregon Symphony, Portland Youth Philharmonic, NW Dance Project, and Third Angle New Music, we’re working to keep the performing arts alive and vibrant in our city. From the beginning, these partnerships have meant the world to us. As each new season arrives, we celebrate anew. Come see a show, and join us for dinner.
Nel Centro ‘Top Workplace 2018’
Today, team Nel Centro is standing happy and proud. Our restaurant was named by The Oregonian as a Top Workplace for 2018. What an amazing recognition of the hard work and commitment to a positive and professional workplace that our entire crew brings every day. We love what we do. Our wonderful guests are a huge part of why we love working here. Great big thank you’s to our staff and to our patrons for making it all possible.
Chef Luis’ autumn delights
As the leaves turn and the rains finally arrive, our chefs are looking to present you with delicious seasonal menu items. Traditionally, our fall menu will highlight our handmade pastas made with fabulous fall ingredients as well as Chef Luis’ signature braised dishes. Please help us welcome our new sous chef, Gavin Braid. Chef Luis and Chef Gavin both have roots in the San Francisco culinary scene and bring a fresh, modern approach to our old-world Riviera cuisine. Here’s the full menu >>
The return of Kristin Sands. Sweet!
Pastry chef, Kristen Sands, has returned to Nel Centro after opening our sister restaurant/cafe, Citizen Baker. Her new dessert menu includes a beautiful Brown Butter Almond Cake with Mascarpone Ice Cream and a Goat Cheese Cheesecake with Blackberry Apple Compote. A dessert not to be missed. Welcome back, Kristen!
Helping to feed homeless young people
In addition to our support of the arts, Nel Centro provides lunch for homeless youth. We partner with the dedicated folks at the creative mentoring program p:ear, who have been mentoring homeless youth in Portland for over 15 years. We are proud to support them. Thank you, p:ear for the important work you do.

People are talking about Nel Centro
“Found this place online searching for best Portland happy hour, really enjoyed it. Sat at the bar as most tables were full. Our bartender, Justin, was excellent. I had the littleneck clams with chorizo and my wife had the special pizza, both were very good. Lively atmosphere with trendy decor. I’ll certainly be back next time in town.”
